Balmain made its return to the couture world, after 16 years. The last couture collection was released when Oscar De La Renta was still designer-in-chief, back in 2002.
On wednesday, the show was held in the mirrored spaces of the soon-to-open Balmain boutique on Rue Saint-Honoré. According to Oliver Rousteing, creative director of the fashion house, the collection paid homage to Paris and the founder of Balmain, Pierre Balmain, with its focus on geometric shapes and exaggerated, jutting sprays of folded and fabric.
